The building is made of two sculptural pavilions left over from Expo '67, and the sixties geometry is the reason to look at it. It stands on an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence, so water is visible from almost every level. Several kitchens work at a genuine standard and the evening programme runs on a published schedule. From the island the city reads as a single line of light across the water.

The complex stands directly above the falls, and the water functions as the background to everything inside it. Rooms in the Fallsview category face the drop, which means the view is available from first light until the last order of the evening. There is a theatre with touring names, a spa and a set of kitchens that look out over the water. In winter the mist freezes on the railings and the crowds thin to something manageable.

River Rock Casino Resort
River Rock sits on the water at Richmond with its own marina and a concert room that runs most weeks. The kitchens stay open late, which matters more than it sounds when you land at eleven at night. The setting is functional rather than beautiful: this is a river delta beside an airport. What it does better than anywhere else in the catalogue is absorb an awkward arrival or an early departure.

Casino Rama Resort
Casino Rama stands on the lands of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, near the shore of Lake Couchiching. It is a resort in the older sense: grounds, a spa, several kitchens and golf within a short drive. The concert hall is large and the programme is the main event of most evenings. Out beyond the buildings the lake country takes over quickly and completely.

If you want a small building, an owner at breakfast and a lobby you can cross in four steps, every other section of this catalogue serves you better. These four are large, busy and organised around an evening programme. Three of them note a full lobby or an early breakfast crowd in their own skip line, and those lines are the honest part of the entry.
Nobody should choose a hotel here for the gaming floor, because we have not looked at it and we would not know what to tell you.
